Body of text  WILLIAM LILLIE (FES, VIII, 740), born 15th September 1899 at Watten, Caithness, son of David Lillie and Frances Margaret Brown; educated at Gersa Public School 1904-11, Thurso Miller Institution 1911-6, University of Aberdeen 1916-21, MA (1st Class Hons in Mental Philosophy, 1921), DD (1948); war service in HM Forces 1917-9; University of London 1921-2, Dip. In Pedagogy (1922), University of Glasgow 1929-31, 1937-8, BD (Distinction in Systematic Theology, 1938); missionary professor of Church of Scotland in Murray College, Sialkot, Punjab, India, from 17th November 1922; licensed by Presbytery of Glasgow 24th March 1931; ordained by same Presbytery 29th March 1931; resigned 25th February 1948; inducted Dulnain Bridge 25th February 1948; demitted on appointment as Lecturer in Biblical Studies, University of Aberdeen, 1st October 1953. Married 17th September 1929, Florence Jean Crawford, born 31st May 1892, daughter of David Watson and Janet Martin; has issue, Adziel, born 3rd July 1931, died 31st October 1935. Publication � An Introduction to Ethics, London, 1948.
