Body of text  WALTER VERNON STONE, born 2nd March 1919 at Nürnberg, Germany, son of Theodor Julius Stone and Dorothea Martha Schilling; educated at Berlin Preparatory School 1925-8, Collège Royal Français 1928-36, Gordonstoun School 1936-7, University of Edinburgh 1937-40, New College 1946-9, MA (Hons French 1943), BD (Distinction in New Testament 1949); war service in HM Forces 1941-6 in United Kingdom, India and Malaya; sub-warden New College Settlement 1946-7; student assistant Edinburgh Richmond-Craigmillar 1947-9; licensed by Presbytery of Edinburgh 8th April 1949; ordained for missionary service in Livingstonia 17th July 1949. Married 4th September 1947, Edith Maria Emmy, born 19th February 1919, daughter of Dr. Richard Wolf, and has issue, Christopher, born 11th September 1948; Timothy, born 22nd august 1950; Michael, born 18th May 1954.
