Body of text  ELLIS OWEN SHAW, born 14th May 1908 at Glasgow, son of Alexander Moore Shaw and Ellen Naomi Ellis; educated at Bearsden Academy 1913-9, Glasgow High School 1919-26, University of Glasgow 1926-33, MA (Hons 1930), University of Tübingen 1933-4, and Marburg 1934; licensed by Presbytery of Dumbarton 4th April 1933; ordained as missionary to Madras by same Presbytery 20th November 1934; service in Royal Observer Corps 1941 and Hon Chaplain RAF, Arkonam 1945-8; minister of South India United Church from October 1946; presbyter of Church of South India from September 1947. Married 20th December 1939, Mary Whitely Frushard Waddington, born 26th July 1913, and has issue, Faith Mary, born 12th September 1941; Andrea Hope, born 13th October 1942; John David, born 11th January 1946; Alice Kirstine, born 9th August 1949; Freda Ellen, born 15th September 1955.
