Body of text  JAMES MACDONALD MACTAVISH, born 20th April 1912, at Winnipeg, Canada, son of William John Mactavish, MD and Flornce Margaret Smityh; educated at Winnipeg St John's College School 1922-30, St John's College, University of Manitoba 1931-5, BA; student assistant Corstorphine St Ninian's 1938-9, Edinburgh Greyfriars (Robertson Memorial Mission) 1940-1; war service in RNVR In France, India and Burma 1943-6; licensed by Presbytery of Edinburgh 1947; ordained by same Presbytery as missionary to Mukden, Manchuria 1947; translated to Lovedale 1950. Married 28th June 1940, Shona Katrine, born 12th April 1920, daughter of Dr F W Dunlop, Professor of Philosophy, University of Otago, and Maud Gillan, and has issue, Terry Isabel, born 13th April 1949 in Formosa; Dugald Iain Dunlop, born 28th February 1951 at East London, South Africa; Catriona Margaret, born 28th January 1954 at Alice, South Africa.
