Body of text  WILLIAM DEMPSTER, born 2nd November 1893 at Jedburgh, son of James Thom Dempster and Robina Aitken Love; educated at Jedburgh Grammar School 1898-1901, Glasgow Whitehill Higher Grade School 1901-10, University of Glasgow 1910-17, MA, MB, Ch B; service with YMCA in France 1914-15, and Captain RAMC in Iraq 1917-20; house-surgeon Glasgow Western Infirmary 1916-17, 1920-1, and Eye Infirmary 1921; medical missionary in Santalia 1921-33; ordained by Presbytery of Bengal for service at Pachamba, District Hazaribagh 8th October 1931. Married 20th July 1921, Annie, daughter of Robert B Balfour, Jedburgh, and has issue, Margaret Balfour, born 21st September 1924; Elma Douglas, born 1st May 1926.
