Register Entry  We are very sorry to learn the death among the Parsees on Saturday afternoon the 28th of August of their most distinguished and learned Prelate the Right respected Dustoor Edul Daro Dorabjee Sanjana. He held the office of the head Dustoor (answering to Archbishop) for 20 years of the Shenshai Parsees and was held in high veneration by them. He was remarkable alike for his talents and acquirements as for modesty. Of the very few among the Parsees who are supposed to know the ancient Persian language he stood foremost. He was a proficient in Zend, Pazund, Pehelvi, Sanscrit, Arabic, Persian, Goozratee, Balbood and Hindoostanee and knew also but less perfectly Duree, Turkish and English. The modesty with which he bore all the honors of his exalted office among the Parsees and his natural tendency not to hunt after popularity have been the cause of his being less known among the world of literature though he was not altogether a stranger to some of the distinguished Oriental Scholars in Europe. Of the several works and translations of works which he has written and published for the enlightenment of the Parsees on the subject of their religion, some will ever remain as solid monuments of his memory among them. His translation of the Zendavista from the original Zend into Goozratee on the Hamiltonian system with commentaries thereon is a work of considerable erudition and immense value. He was lately engaged in writing a learned commentary on the ""Vendidad"" and other Parsee works but his death will put an end to its completion. This is a national loss among the Parsees and is much to be lamented especially as there are none left on the score of learning and the knowledge of their religion among them to supply his place. He was aged 71 years. The mournful event has caused an universal gloom among the Zoroastrians.
