Detail  Belonged to HMS Hannibal but [died] athe Hospital at Nagapatnam, June 1782. Limited admon to Thomas Hayes. Was a mariner on HMS Hannibal from Feb 1780 until ""the ship was captured in the East Indies by the French king's ship The Hero"". Hayes was a good friend of the deceased, and in Dec 1781 they applied to Richard Strachan the clerk of Alexander Christie Esq. the captain to make their wills. The deceased left all to Hayes, the executor. The deceased was sick at the time of capture & was put on board a hospital ship in the French fleet, which was later captured by a Royal Navy ship, and he was then sent to the hospital at Nagapatnam. Hayes kept the will until until his capture when he gave it to Samuel Saunders, Sergeant R.M. on the ship, who if he lives is on HMS Eagle in the East Indies. Later Hayes was kept in Hyder Ally's prison at Chillingburn in the Cornatch, took the will back and kept it in his knapsack. After 2 1/2 years Hayes with some others was marched across the country to Madrass to be exchanged. During the march the bag was stolen from under his head while he was sleeping. Thomas Lynch and John Burke were among the prisoners. Deceased had no relatives, £20, Pts
