Service  Lieutenant-Colonel Vaughan served as A. D. C. to Sir John Littler at the battle of Maharajpore. Bronze Star. Served with the Anglo-Turkish Contingent in the Crimea, from October 55 to the end of the War, as Assistant Deputy Quarter-Master-General. Brevet-Major and 4th Class of the Medjidie. Commanded a Field Force in Eusuffzaie, 57; and was twice thanked by Government, particularly for the attacks on the fortified village of Nerinjee, 21st July and 3rd August. Commanded the 5th Punjab Infantry in all the operations in Oude, subsequent to the capture of Lucknow, 58; and mentioned in the Despatches for the affairs of Baree and Simree, battle of Nawabgunge, passage of the Goomtee at Sultanpore, &c., &c. Brevet-Lieutenant-Colonel. Commanded a Column of Troops on the Raptee, 59, and repeatedly defeated bodies of the rebels, particularly on the 14th and 18th June. Commanded the whole of the Troops on the Upper Raptee in the operations which led to the final surrender of the rebels, December 59. Medal.
