Present at the storm and capture of Pegu, 21st November 52, and at the relief of the Garrison on the 14th December 52; and subsequent engagements on the 17th and 18th December 52. Medal and Clasp. On the retreat of a party of Europeans defeated at Chinhut, was a Volunteer, and assisted to hold the Iron Bridge, 30th June 57. Served throughout the siege of Lucknow, from June to November 57. Present at the defeat of the Gwalior Contingent, 6th December 57. Medal and Clasp, and one years additional service for Lucknow. Was specially recommended by his Commanding Officer to the Commander-in-Chief for services in the Field, and promoted to the rank of Ensign for the said services. Reported to his Commanding Officer by Lieutenant Sewell for his praiseworthy conduct in assisting to convey Major Bruce (who was dangerously wounded) to a place of safety. Reported by Captain Watson to his Commanding Officer for his "excellent conduct and calmness in action as well as for the good example he set to the Guard on. the Brigade Mess House, Lucknow Garrison." |
