In loving remembrance of the Rev. William Lewis, one of the first Missionaries of the Welsh Missionaries in Khasia. He laboured here for 18 years. He left Wales in July. 1842. Returned in May 1861. He baptised the first converts; he built the first churches; he taught the first teachers and preachers; and he translated the New Testament into the Khasi language. Well done good and faithful servant, born in Manchester July, 1814, died in Wrexham, May 6, 1891. This tablet was presented by Mrs. Lewis who lovingly participated in all his work. |
