| Surname | Maglashan | | Forename | Alexander | | Rank | Captain | | Location | Calcutta | | Summary Remarks | The Orders of the Honourable Board, dated the 17th Ult. Appointed Captain Alexander Maglashan a Brevet Major, to Rank in the Infantry and Army on the date of said Orders on condition that he immediately Resign the service to avail himself of the Pension. Admitted the service as Cadet in 1770. In 1779 or 1780 he was at the Presidency as a Lieutenant, and made application to Government to be made a Captain, upon refusal he was to be sent home on Pension alleging the loss of his health in the Service. He was positively refused and then through his connections undermined Major Eaton who then commanded at Buxar, who he succeeded in post and was promoted a Captain commanding at Buxar, and Major Eaton was removed to the Sepoy Corps. He quickly became indisposed again and was put on the sick list in Calcutta and Major Eaton was returned to command at Buxar. His military genius I believe is not very conspicuous, unless his very active retreat from the late Colonel Lestie's Camp may be deemed honourable in the time of Service the only time he was ever employed. | | Article Type | News Article | | Issue Number | 104 | | Issue Day | 19 | | Issue Month | January | | Issue Year | 1782 |
