Captain Billamore sailed from Bombay on the 2nd June and arrived at St Augustine's Bay, on the Island of Madagascar on the 17th July. The shipwrecked mariners had left Madagascar two months beforehand and had embarked in a Portuguese vessel which had humanely been sent for that purpose by the Governor of Mosambique. The Gloucester left St Augustine's Bay on the 5th August and arrived a few days thereafter at Johanna, where they found Mr Jolly a midshipman, and ten seamen formerly belonging to the Winterton, who had been left behind sick at Joanna when the Portuguese vessel passed through on her way to India. They went on board the Gloucester back to Madras. The Portuguese vessel and other survivors of the Winterton were captured by the French and were taken to Mauritius. | | Article Type | News Article | | Issue Number | Vol. VI, No. 296 | | Issue Day | 9 | | Issue Month | October | | Issue Year | 1793 |
