Inscription  In Memory of Lieut. Henry David Baillie, whose childhood an early youth passed in Westerham parish. He was the third son of David Baillie, Esq., and of Louisa his wife. Born 21st November 1836. He joined the 2nd. Battalion, Rifle Brigade before Sebastopol and was engaged in both assaults of the redan. In August 1857, he set sail for India and was in active service with Lord Clyde's Army and under Sir James Hope Grant until October 1858 when he was ordered to England, too late for the recovery of his health. He closed his brief and honourable life on his pasage home on 27th November 1858, aged 22. "Enter not into judgement with thy servant, O, Lord"
