Inscription  Sacred to the Memory of Men of Her Majesty's 37 Regiment of foot, who departed this life at Trincomalie in the years 1847,1848,'49,'50,'54,'55. Their names are incribed on the other sides of this Monument, which is erected by their officers and comrades as a tribute of esteem and regard to departed worth and in token of the respect & affection in which their memory is held.
