Entry  I.C.S. : born Aug. 20, 1784 : son of the sixth Earl of Balcarres : arrived in Calcutta as a writer, 1803 : assistant to the Magistrate of Sylhet, 1806-10 : nearly the whole time engaged against the incursions of Kullian Sing, a native chief of marauders : employed at Dacca and the 24 Parganas : Agent in charge of the Salt Monopoly, 1811-34 : on a voyage for health to Singapore, died there Julv 4, 1835.
