Entry  Son of John Lester : born Feb. 3, 1795 : educated at Camberwell and Addiscombe : joined the Bombay Artillery, 1811 : rose to be Maj-General, 1854 : in 1857 commanded the Southern Division of the Bombay Army : his excellent precautionary measures prevented the mutiny from spreading to Western India : died at Belgaum, July 3, 1858.
