	Entry	Doctor : born in 1728 : of Courland in Lithuania : pupil of Linnaeus : visited India in search of natural curiosities : became a friend of Sir Thomas Munro (q.v.) : travelled widely over India from the Ganges to the Indus, from Delhi to Cape Comorin : was in 1778 in the service of the E. I. Co., who sent him to Siam and the Straits of Malacca, in search of plants and minerals : while travelling along the coast from Ceylon to Calcutta, died June 26, 1785.
