Entry  Political : son of John Macdonald : born Feb. 3, 1782 : joined the 24th Madras, N.I. in 1807 : attached to Sir J. Malcolm's mission to Persia, 1808-9 : travelled to England across Europe, and in 1813 from Constantinople through Armenia, Kurdistan, to Bagdad and Bombay : wrote his account of it : took his mother's name of Kinneir : published a Gazetteer of Persia : Town-Major of Madras, and Resident with the Nawab of the Carnatic : Envoy to Persia, 1824-30 : was in the hostilities with Russia, and mediated, before the treaty of Turkamanchai of Feb. 23, 1828 : died at Tabriz, June 11, 1830.
