Entry  Son of John Pitt Kennedy : born May 8, 1796 : educated at Foyle College, Londonderry, and the R.M.A., Woolwich, entering the R.E. in 1815 : became Secretary and Director of Public Works in Cephalonia, 1822-8, under Sir Charles Napier : devoted himself to Irish agriculture and education : Secretary to the Devon Commission and the Famine Relief Committee : was Military Secretary to Sir Charles Napier when C. in C. in India, 1849-50 : at the forcing of the Kohat Pass, 1850 : made the Kennedy Road from Simla towards Tibet : Consulting Engineer to Government for Railways : retired in 1852 : Lt-Colonel : managing Director of the Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway, surveying the line, 1853-4 : died June 28, 1879 : wrote extensively on Irish and Indian subjects.
