Co.'s Artillery, 1772 : his identity was discovered in 1778, and he received a Commission as Lieutenant Fireworker : rose to be Maj-General, 1811 : served in the Bengal Artillery under Cornwallis in the Mysore war, 1790-1, at Bangalore, Arikera and Seringapatam : commanded the Artillery under Lord Lake, 1803-5, at Alighar, Delhi, Agra, Deeg, Bhartpur : at the siege of Komanur, 1807 : commanded the Bengal Artillery, 1808-17: and at the siege of Hatras, 1817 : K.C.B., 1817 : died at Cawnpur, April 20, 1817, a few days after his return from Hatras : never had a day's leave in his 45 years' service. |
