| Surnames | Home | | First Name(s) | Robert | | Year of Birth | 1764? | | Year of Death | 1834 | | Entry | Artist : son of Robert Boyne Home : from 1770 exhibited portraits at the Royal Academy and at Dublin : went to Madras in 1790 : with Lord Cornwallis' Army before Seringapatam, 1791-2 : went to Calcutta, 1792 : at Lucknow he was chief painter to the King of Oudh for some years, and made a large fortune : he returned to Calcutta in 1797 and died there about 1834 : was Secretary to the Asiatic Society of Bengal, 1802, and painted for it. Indian pictures by Home were exhibited at the Academy : he published Select Views in Mysore, the Country of Tippoo Sultan, and A Description of Seringapatam, the Capital of Tippoo Sultan, illustrated : he painted in India pictures of Marquis Wellesley and Colonel Arthur Wellesley, Bishop Heber and Dr. Carey. |
