Entry  Lt-General : son of Lt-Colonel Andrew Wilson Hearsey : born at Midnapur, 1793 : Cornet in the 6th Bengal Cavalry : served in Bundelkund, Rewa and the Pindari war: distinguished himself at Sitabaldi, Nagpur, and battles in the Mahratta war : at Bhartpur, Deeg, Chilianwala and Gujarat : suppressed mutiny in a native regiment at Wazirabad, 1849 : C.B : in 1857 was in command of the Division at Barrackpur, when the native troops showed disaffection, which he reported to Government : showed personal bravery on the occasion of the outbreak of Mangal Pandi, March 29, 1857 : disbanded the 19th N.L : and gained credit for his conduct throughout the mutiny : K.C.B : commanded the 6th Bengal Light Cavalry, and, later, the 21st Hussars : died at Boulogne, Oct. 23, 1865.
