In the mutiny he commanded the Guides' Cavalry in their march of 580 miles in 22 days from Mardan to Delhi : was at the siege of Delhi, at the capture of Lucknow in March, 1858, and in the Oudh campaign : in 1 861 he commanded the Central India Horse, and in 1871 was made Agent to the Governor-General for Central India : K.C.B., 1875 : C.I.E., 1880 : General in 1888 : G.C.O., 1889 : retired in 1882 : died July 21, 1895. |
