Joined the Free Church in 1843; DD (St Andrews); minister of the Scots Free Church, Calcutta. Possessed of a constitution which enabled him to endure great fatigue, he laboured for twenty-two years of continuous service but was compelled to make a journey home on account of ill health in 1856; returned 29th December 1858; died suddenly (of cholera) 9th September 1860.
