Roberts when C. in C, Madras,. 1881-5 : Persian Interpreter, 1885-90 : served in the Burma campaign, 1886-7 : re-organized the Kashmir Army, 1890-7 : commanded the Khyber Force, 1899 : Private Secretary to Lord Roberts in S. African war : Inspr-General Royal Irish Constabulary since 1900 : C.B. in 1900 : K.C.B. , 1903 : retired as Colonel from the Indian Staff Corps.
