Entry  King of Sweden and Norway, as Charles XIV : born of humble parents at Pau in Bearne, 1764 : he enlisted in the French army in 1780, and was, when a serjeant, taken prisoner at the siege of Cuddalore in 1783 : became General in 1793, served in Napoleon's campaigns : and became, as Charles XIV, King of Sweden and Norway in 1818 : died March 8, 1844.
