Entry  Went, with his brother Robert, who was Chief Secretary in Ceylon, to Colombo, in 1800 : thence to Madras and joined a Mr. Lautour in business : on the latter's death the firm was reconstituted, under the name of Arbuthnot & Co., which it still bears : retired from India in 1823, and settled in England.
