CommentA list of the 49 officers serving with the 12 Independent Companies in India under Admiral Boscawen in 1747-50. The List gives brief details of their earlier and subsequent careers, including whether or not the individual remained in India

Remember that the list is based upon the first incumbent of the position (rank). Subsequent changes are given and details of the subsequent incumbent then obtain. This follows the cryptic style of WO 64/9 which may lead to confusion. For example Major Mompesson, overall commander was initially appointed to the Captaincy of the first company. He was replaced by John Fletcher Jun. who captained that company from an early date thereafter, viz. 6 July 1747.
