CommentSue McKay has kindly authorized us to publish her transcriptions of Family History-related data from the Announcements in the South African Commercial Advertiser. This is because they include very many references to personnel in the service of The East India Company en route to or from India or on furlough in S. Africa, which offered a more temperate climate. Also included are many officers and soldiers of the British Army regiments who may well have served in India shortly before or after serving in South Africa.

Full Entry  Wednesday 23 December 1846:To Relatives and Friends. Died on the 12th September last at Rajahmundry, in the Madras Presidency, Sophia Catharina TRUTER, daughter of P.J. TRUTER Esq, Civil Commissioner of Worcester, and dearly beloved wife of John ROHDE Esq of the Madras Civil Service. It is an unspeakable consolation for her surviving Friends to reflect that the religious principles, whose influence upon her heart and conduct was visible even from her early youth, supported her mind in her dying moments, and enabled her to enter Eternity, trusting to the merits of her Saviour.
