Register Entry  At Caranjah on the 11th October at 1pm suddenly of apoplexy Mr Silvestre de Souze aged 75 years leaving a widow and his very affectionate and only surviving younger brother Manoel de Souza Esq. Mamlutdar of Salsette and a large circle of relations and friends to bemoan his irreparable loss he was a very respectable and much esteemed old man on the Island. His memory was very retentive with regard to the history and customs of the country in connexion with the Portuguese away in India and the Mahratta Dynasty. Almost the whole inhabitants of the Island are thrown in the deepest sorrow at the loss of so able and charitable a person whose opinion advice and support were frequently solicited in matters of importance. His remains were buried with solemnity on the 12th instant in his parish church. A Great number of priests as well as the Vicar-General of Mazagon and numerous relations and friends and together with Parsees and Natives assisted at and attended the funeral. Public thanks are tendered to the Vicar-General for his kind services on the melancholy occasion
