Register Entry  At Lahore Major General Battine CB Commanding Cis-Jhelum Division of the Army-and Colonel of the 8th Battn. Artillery. This lamented officer during a service of 48 years has filled situations of trust & responsibility a well as received distinctive rewards that establish his character as having been a valuable servant of the State. As a professional Officer in the Corps to which he belonged he held a high rank for talent and acquirements and was esteemed and respected by all who had the pleasure of his acquaintance as a member of Society. Those who were connected with him in the more private relations of life will best appreciate his character as a warm friend and affectionate considerate and kind member of a family and while they lament his loss as an amiable and worthy man they are encouraged as he was a sincere Christian to mourn 'not as those without hope'
