Register Entry  At Calcutta on the 15th June William Matthews Esq late of Buttowra near Juanpore whence he with his family was driven by the rebellious population of the country in June 1857 after a residence amongst them of nearly 60 years during which period his large expenditure of the cultivation of Indigo &c enriched hundreds of native families around him all of whom turned against him at the time of the mutinity at Juanpore and in return for numerous benefits plundered him of all his property and drove him and his family forth from house and home. After a year of great suffering caused by exposure during his flight he died aged 80 years and 6 months
