CommentThese are details of Widow's entitled to receive pensions due their late husbands' service in India. The list was compiled for widows still living in 1896 and the details placed in IOR/L/MIL/14/215

Note that much of the detail was entered by the women themselves and that consequently some spelling, etc. are 'non-standard!'

Illegiblewriting is written as $$$$

In 1896 the Military Pension authorities determined to take a 'snapshot' of ex-soldiers of the EIC & Indian Armies who were receiving a pension in Europe. This snapshot provides very interesting details of the careers of each soldier and each widow receiving a pension.
