Entry  At Humeerpore, on the Jumna, on or about the 18th June, 1857, in the 25th year of his age, Donald Grant, Esq., of the Bengal Civil Service, third son of Superintending Surgeon John Grant, of the Bengal Medical Staff, Retired. This lamented young man at the time of his death was magistrate of Humeerpore and Assistant to the Collector. He was killed by mutinous soldiers of the 56th N.I., forming the Treasury guard of the station. The intelligence rests on the authority of a native sub-assistant surgeon who made his escape from the mutineers.
