Inscription  At the instance of Capt. Thos. Larkins, and to the Memory of Thomas Poynting, Esq. Commander of the Ship 'Resolution', in the service of the United Company of Merchants of England, trading to the East Indies, who most bravely defended the 'Resolution' against thirty sail of the Mahratta fleet. He died esteemed and honored by those who knew him. The 28th day of August 1783, aged 53 years.
