Inscription  This Monument is erected by Sir David Ochterlony, and the officers of the army under his command, to the memory of Lieutenant Peter Lawtie of the Corps of Engineers in the army of Bengal; who, at the age of twenty-three, at the close of the first Campaign of the Nepaul War; to the successful termination of which his exertions had eminently contributed: Fell a victim to his devotion in the service of his country, Beloved, respected and admired. Obiit Anno MDCCCXV
