Detail  At Baroche, of which district he was chief judge and magistrate, John Spencer, esq. having passed 36 years of his life actually in India, in the service of the East India Company. He was the son of John S. esq. formerly provisional governor of Bengal; to whose plan and counsels the Company was indebted, in the year 1759, for the possession of Surat castle, and the territory thereby arrived.
