Detail  At Madras, in consequence of an accident while exercising his men, Lieut.-col. Wm. Sherriff, of the 7th regiment of native cavalry. He was only 42 years of age, a distinguished officer, and had been 28 years an officer of cavalry in the East-India Company's service.
