Detail  In action in the Burmese territory, at the Stockade of Chombala, Major Schalch. His paternal family is said to have been of German extraction. His father and some immediate relatives were officers of rank in our Royal Artillery� [Went to India in 1809 as an infantry cadet, became a surveyor].
