As he lived respected, he died regretted. His funeral was attended by an amazing concourse of mourners, both European and natives. Earl Cornwallis was one of the supporters of his pall, and shed tears during the whole of the ceremony. He has left 500 rupees a month to his wife (a native) for her life; and the remainder of his fortune, after a few legacies, to an only son now in England, amounting to about £80,000. |
