Detail  ABROAD. In India, Lieut.-gen. Pater, of the East India Company's service, an officer who had served with distinguished credit in all the wars under Sir Eyre Coote, and in many of the more recent actions fought by the Madras Army. At one period, he commanded the army in chief on the coast of Coromandel.
