Detail  At his house in Devonshire-street, Portland-place, in his 41st year, Anthony Lambert, esq. This gentleman, who was a native of Nortumberland, went, in 1779, to Bengal, as a cadet, in the military service of the East India Company; but abandoned the profession of arms shortly after the peace in 1782, and applied himself to commerce, which, during the remainder of his residence in India, he followed with singular industry, ability, and success... [spent 19 years in India, studied much about the country, returned when in poor health in July 1798. pages 284-285].
