Detail  At Cannanore, Madras, Major John Giles, of the 53d regiment of foot. This meritorious and active officer was a native and freeman of Oxford, and had probably seen more service than any other officer of equal rank; having been employed in Holland, Sweden, Egypt, the Peninsula, and the East Indies.
