M.P. for Hythe, a Director of the East India Company, and of the Alliance Insurance Office. Sir Robert was born October 14, 1776, the second son of the late Sir Walter Farquhar, M.D. who was created a Baronet in 1796, by Anne, fourth daughter of Thomas Stephenson, Esq. He was for many years Commercial Resident at Amboyna, and afterwards Lieutenant-Governor of Pulo Penang. At the Peace of Amiens, in 1802, he was appointed Commissioner of for adjusting the British Claims in the Moluccas, and to deliver up those islands to the Bavarian Republic... [In 1812 appointed Governor and Commander in Chief of Mauritius, resigned 1823, married 10 Jan 1908 Maria Francis Geslip, 2nd daughter of Joseph Francis Louis Latour, Esq. of Madras, children included Sir Walter Minto Farquhar, born Oct 1808k, who has succeeded to the title]. |
