Detail  At Allipore, Major George Downie, commanding the Calcutta Native Militia. Highly respected as an officer, beloved a a man, he was endeared to his Corps, who regarded him as the friend and father. To an only brother, who shared more closely in his affections, his death is a heavy and irreparable affliction.
