Detail  At Bedgbury, near Goudhurst in Kent, in his 69th year, John Cartier, esq. late governor of Bengal. He went to Bengal, as a writer in the service of the East India Company, in 1749-50; and, soon after his arrival, was appointed an assistant to the factory of Dacca... [much detail on his posts, mostly at Dacca; was a volunteer in Clive's army, married in 1774 his second wife, Stephena Law, daughter of Stephen Law, the former governor of Bombay, purchased Bedgbury estate in 1774, left a widow, pages 183-184].
