Detail  At Fort St George, aged 64, his Excellency Lieut.-General Sir Alexander Campbell, Bart. K.C.B. Commander-in-Chief at that Presidency. This gallant officer was the fourth son of John Campbell of Baleed, in Perthshire, by Isabella, daughter of John Campbell of Barcaldine. He entered the service in 1776, as an Ensign, by purchase, in the 1st batt. of Royal Scots... [was in India, 1793-1817, much detail on his activities; appointed 6 December 1820 to current post, eldest son killed at Assaye, eldest daughter married the late Alexander Cockburn, banker at Madras, the youngest married Lieut.-Col. Malcolm Kinneir, Envoy from the Governor General of India to the Persian Court. Pages 564-567].
