Detail  Historical Chronicle. 7 Jan. Mr. Meriton, 2d mate of the Halsewell outward bound Indiaman, R. Pierce commander, arrived this day at the India-House, with the melancholy news of the loss of that unfortunate ship on the rocks of S. Purbeck, between St. Albans Head, and Peverel-point, near Portland� [pages 75-76 gives a lengthy account]. The following is an authentic list of those passengers who were lost: Miss Eliza Pierce, Mary Ann Pierce, daughters of Capt. Pierce; Anne Paul, Mary Paul, nieces of Captain Pierce; Mary Hoggard, Elizabeth Blackburn, Ann Mansell. Two sisters of the wife of Mr. George Templar, who married a niece of Capt. Pierce, are also among the ladies who were lost. And a younger brother of Mr. Templar was also lost.
