Batty, of his Majesty's 22d Regiment, in Diamond harbour, Calcutta, by the following accident: shortly after the ship Harriet, on-board of which Capt. B. was a passenger, arrived in the harbour, a paunsoy-boat came alongside, and while he was leaning over the gangway of the Harriet, talking with the people in the boat, a slack rope by which he held gave way; he instantly fell into the river, between the ship and the boat, and was never seen more. |
