M.P. for Anstruther, Scotland, King's heretable carver, and general receiver of Bishop's rents, Scotland. He was born at Elie-house, in Fifeshire, March 27, 1753; was bred to the law; and in 1758 was appointed Chief Justice of the Court of Judicature in Bengal, and created a baronet. By his death a pension of £1500 a year falls in to the East India Company. He married Mary-J. daughter of ---- Brice, of Berners-street, esq. by whom he had issue two sons, John and Windham, and one daughter, who survives him. |
